Basic lesson on how to submit your website URL to 3 major search engines - free.
Do you feel like you're missing out on some of the ways to make your website known to others?
You hear about all of the search engine optimization (SEO) stuff and wonder what it is, and how it affects you as a writer. Getting your 'keywords' for your website articles you are writing into place is one thing, but if the web address of your website's articles are not indexed by one of the 3 major search engines, then what should you do?
If you write online and need to publicize your own website's writings or songs or photos so that others may find your work, then the information I am giving you here should serve you well.
For whichever search engine you normally use, you can just type in these words:
'submit URL' and then hit 'search'
Okay. A gazillion hits come up - where should you go from here?
My advice is to add onto your 'query' - (3 search engines are listed in no particular order here)
'submit URL to Google'
or
'submit URL to BING'
or
'submit URL to Yahoo'
You will, of course, have already 'copied' the URL of your completed website's page, so that once you reach the page where you plan to submit your URL, you can then simply 'paste' it into the space provided.
With Google, you will also need to give a description along with the URL.
With BING, you will need to fill in the 'CAPCHA' word or letters to prove you are not one of those pesky robots that travel the internet just filling in the blanks where they can.
With Yahoo!, you will need to be a member and sign in, but otherwise it is a free submission of your website URL.
Once you have added your URL to one of these, go ahead and complete the submission to the other 2.
You will find several other sites that are difficult to use, or sites that will charge you money to submit a URL, but if you submit to these 3 major search engines, your bases should be pretty well covered.
End of today's lesson. 'Til next time!

Note: you need to be at 'Yahoo Site Explorer' in order to submit a URL for your website.
